LM317 3-TERMINAL ADJUSTABLE REGULATOR
FEATURES
· Output Voltage Range Adjustable From 1.25 V
· Thermal Overload Protection to 37 V
· Output Safe-Area Compensation
· Output Current Greater Than 1.5 A
· Internal Short-Circuit Current Limiting
DESCRIPTION/ORDERING INFORMATION
The LM317 is an adjustable three-terminal positive-voltage regulator capable of supplying more than 1.5 A over
an output-voltage range of 1.25 V to 37 V. It is exceptionally easy to use and requires only two external resistors
to set the output voltage. Furthermore, both line and load regulation are better than standard fixed regulators.
In addition to having higher performance than fixed regulators, this device includes on-chip current limiting,
thermal overload protection, and safe operating-area protection. All overload protection remains fully functional,
even if the ADJUST terminal is disconnected.
The LM317 is versatile in its applications, including uses in programmable output regulation and local on-card
regulation. Or, by connecting a fixed resistor between the ADJUST and OUTPUT terminals, the LM317 can
function as a precision current regulator. An optional output capacitor can be added to improve transient
response. The ADJUST terminal can be bypassed to achieve very high ripple-rejection ratios, which are difficult
to achieve with standard three-terminal regulators.

LM158/LM258/LM358/LM2904 Low Power Dual Operational Amplifiers
Literature Number:
General Description
The LM158 series consists of two independent, high gain,
internally frequency compensated operational amplifiers
which were designed specifically to operate from a single
power supply over a wide range of voltages. Operation from
split power supplies is also possible and the low power
supply current drain is independent of the magnitude of the
power supply voltage.
Application areas include transducer amplifiers, dc gain
blocks and all the conventional op amp circuits which now
can be more easily implemented in single power supply
systems. For example, the LM158 series can be directly
operated off of the standard +5V power supply voltage which
is used in digital systems and will easily provide the required
interface electronics without requiring the additional ±15V
power supplies.
The LM358 and LM2904 are available in a chip sized package
(8-Bump micro SMD) using National’s micro SMD package
technology.
Unique Characteristics
n In the linear mode the input common-mode voltage
range includes ground and the output voltage can also
swing to ground, even though operated from only a
single power supply voltage.
n The unity gain cross frequency is temperature
compensated.
n The input bias current is also temperature compensated.
Advantages
n Two internally compensated op amps
n Eliminates need for dual supplies
n Allows direct sensing near GND and VOUT also goes to
GND
n Compatible with all forms of logic
n Power drain suitable for battery operation
Features
n Available in 8-Bump micro SMD chip sized package,
(See AN-1112)
n Internally frequency compensated for unity gain
n Large dc voltage gain: 100 dB
n Wide bandwidth (unity gain): 1 MHz
(temperature compensated)
n Wide power supply range:
— Single supply: 3V to 32V
— or dual supplies: ±1.5V to ±16V
n Very low supply current drain (500 μA)—essentially
independent of supply voltage
n Low input offset voltage: 2 mV
n Input common-mode voltage range includes ground
n Differential input voltage range equal to the power
supply voltage
n Large output voltage swing

DESCRIPTION
The ADS1210 and ADS1211 are precision, wide dynamic
range, delta-sigma Analog-to-Digital (A/D) converters with
24-bit resolution operating from a single +5V supply. The
differential inputs are ideal for direct connection to transducers
or low-level voltage signals. The delta-sigma architecture
is used for wide dynamic range and to ensure 22 bits
of no-missing-code performance. An effective resolution of
23 bits is achieved through the use of a very low-noise input
amplifier at conversion rates up to 10Hz. Effective resolutions
of 20 bits can be maintained up to a sample rate of
1kHz through the use of the unique Turbo modulator mode
of operation. The dynamic range of the converters is further
increased by providing a low-noise programmable gain
amplifier with a gain range of 1 to 16 in binary steps.
The ADS1210 and ADS1211 are designed for high resolution
measurement applications in smart transmitters, industrial
process control, weigh scales, chromatography, and portable
instrumentation. Both converters include a flexible synchronous
serial interface that is SPI-compatible and also offers a
two-wire control mode for low cost isolation.
The ADS1210 is a single-channel converter and is offered in
both 18-pin DIP and 18-lead SOIC packages. The ADS1211
includes a 4-channel input multiplexer and is available in 24-
pin DIP, 24-lead SOIC, and 28-lead SSOP packages.
